Activity 23

Hadashi no Tabi( HNT)の第3章全体をシャドーイングしてみよう。10分間練習しよう。

The following words all contain the short ‘i’ sound from ‘pig’. Practice pronouncing them for a minute or two (YouTube). You may wish to read them as word pairs.
  • It’s English
  • didn’t think
  • will fit in
  • morning practice,
  • begin university
  • little fitter
  • simple training
  • teaching planning
Now listen to HNT Chapter 3 (where you’ll encounter those words) and shadow along for 10 minutes.

HNT Chapter 3

I am a teacher. I teach English. I walk to school every day, because I’m training to walk in Japan.

Today, two weeks before I fly to Japan, I had to walk to school two times. I had forgotten my teaching notes. I didn’t mind, because I like to walk.

Walking is natural. It’s easy and simple to walk. It’s good for our bodies. It’s good for me.

But now I am planning to walk a long way. Japan is 3000km from south to north. That’s far. Of course, I need to train. I need to practice. I need to get ready. How am I doing that?

I just walk every day. I walk to work in the morning, and in the afternoon I walk home. Sometimes I run, but not often. My body is fit enough. I have walked and run for many years. I think it’s more important to train my mind. And my mind is fit too. The last three summers, I walked for many weeks in New Zealand.

In Japan, I will start by walking slowly. Slowly, I will grow fitter. I will lose some weight. Later, I will run a little. That’s my plan. It’s a simple plan, but I think it will work. We’ll see.
